Listening Party, Dubai

Dubai! Join us for a listening party around a Kerning Cultures podcast episode, "Where the Heart Is".

This episode follows Maysam’s story. For his entire life, Maysam has lived in Dubai. His parents are from Syria, a place he hasn’t visited since he was a young child. If you ask him, the UAE is his home. But on paper, it isn’t, and likely never will be. So what happens when the only place you know as home in your heart can’t be your home forever?

We’d love to hear your stories about where you call or don’t call, home. Come with your thoughts, stories, or just come with a friend. We'll take care of the rest (including some light refreshments). This episode and discussion are a perfect complement to the ongoing exhibition at Gulf Photo Plus, "No Place Like Home."

Dubai! Join us for a listening party around our latest podcast episode, "Her Side of the Story".

This episode follows two women, Ghada and Ranyah. They don’t know each other, but their stories have a lot in common. When they each married their husbands, everybody around them assumed they’d live happily ever after. It didn’t turn out that way for either of them. They were both left to rebuild their identities as single women in the Middle East, all while raising their family. In this episode, we'll hear their stories of journeying through divorce, and what came next.

Join us for a night of honest discussion about love and divorce in the Middle East. Come with your thoughts, stories, or just come with a friend. We'll take care of the rest (including some light refreshments).

Miami! Join us for a listening party around our latest podcast episode, "None of the Above".

Every 10 years, the United States Census counts and categorizes every person living in America. But for Middle Easterners in America, there has never been a category option. So, how do you pick an identity when none of the options fit? We explored this question in our latest episode, and we want to hear from our KC family.

Join us for a night of honest discussion about Middle Eastern identity in the US. Come with a thought, a question, or just come with a friend! Light snacks and drinks available.

Listening Party, Seattle

Join us for our next listening party, sponsored by the Kirkland Arts Center. We’ll premiere our newest episode, “These Two Lanes Could Take Us Anywhere", and discuss the story afterwards. Expect an evening of new friendships and meaningful discussion.

"These Two Lanes Could Take Us Anywhere" is about Ersin and Raffi, two men who grew up to be taught two very different stories about one very big moment in history: the death of 1.5 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire. Over 4,000 miles of open road, riding two bicycles from Baltimore to San Francisco, we learn about Ersin and Raffi, and the real conflict that’s bubbling beneath the surface.

It’s a story about beliefs; about what we know to be true about ourselves and our history. Beliefs so strong, they shape the identity of an entire culture and nation. And it’s about when we begin to question those very stories…that uncomfortable space when we’re faced with another truth that contradicts our own.

Limited space available, so be sure to purchase your tickets beforehand. Tickets include drinks and snacks.
